Teresa and I are headed to Maui today. We completed our online learning segment to get certified to Scuba Dive! Now we are headed back to Maui to get our open water training certificate. Very excited.
Direct flight 6 hours and we will be there.
Went to the Gazebo for breakfast. Everyone says you have to go here. 60 minute drive, 60 minute wait in line to get in but the food is great. We planned a couple of hikes after breakfast since we are in the area.
Some pictures from our trip.
Went to Monkeypod for a bite to eat and a drink. Best Mai Tai on the island
Not many pictures to share but wanted to provide an update. We started class on Wednesday. We did 3.5 hours in the pool learning stuff, then a 1 hour dive off the beach to practice what we learned. It turned into a long day but very fun and informative. Thursday 2 dives about an hour each to practice what we learned. Thought the instructor might fire us after the first dive but we did much better on the second dive. The biggest issue we faced was neutral bouncy. It’s not as simple as you would think. Especially with less than perfect conditions. We had low visibility, high waves and a murky ocean. It's tougher in the ocean than in the pool. We went down about 25 feet each dive. Tomorrow is our last dive and intended to be a site seeing dive but water is not good right now so we are planning to take tomorrow off and do our last dive on Saturday. Hope it gets clearer. Anyway, having a blast. Hope to take more pictures on our celebration dive. Started thinking of our next dive.
It’s official! Teresa and I are PADI certified divers. Lots of fun getting certified but a lot of work too. Our final dive was rescheduled to Saturday because Friday weather was bad. The water Friday looked like mud soup. Saturday was calm and clear thanks to the changing winds. On our final dive we went down to 40 ft and spent about 50 minutes under. We saw turtles, fish, lobster.
